The American Correctional Association (ACA) and the Commission on Accreditation for Corrections has awarded the Broward Sheriff's Office full re-accreditation for all of its detention facilities. The association announced the accomplishment at its winter conference taking place this week in Tampa. The accreditation certification was presented for attainment of excellence in the operation of the Main Jail, North Broward Bureau, Joseph V. Conte Facility and the Paul Rein Facility.

The accreditation certification is active for a three-year period and certifies that each detention facility has met 60 mandatory and more than 300 stringent national standards. The BSO Department of Detention was initially accredited in 1995 and has been reaccredited six times. ACA standards address services, programs, health care and security operations essential to effective correctional management.

“I am very proud of the employees in the Department of Detention for their commitment to achieving and maintaining a standard of excellence,” Sheriff Scott Israel said. “Their dedication results in the safety and well-being of both the staff and the inmate population at all BSO detention facilities.”
