Description of Incident:

Two well-practiced criminals pried open the doors of an Oakland Park pawn shop around 2 a.m. Saturday, smashed the glass cases and walked away with a loaded AK-47 assault rifle and a loaded .40-caliber handgun, as well as other items. But Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responding to a silent alarm at the business arrived just in time to see the suspect van speeding from the business.

The Dodge Grand Caravan drove into a residential neighborhood, hit a parked car, and the two burglars bailed out and ran. BSO, using road patrol, crime suppression team and SWAT deputies, K-9s and a BSO helicopter, set up a perimeter to search. A deputy ran down 34-year-old Alphurs Symonette of Miami, and a K-9 later tracked 35-year-old Enrique Quintero of Opa Locka. Detectives found several stolen items, including both guns, and burglary tools in the van.

Symonette and Quintero are believed to be involved in numerous, similar pawn shop armed burglaries and are a part of a criminal ring active in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Both suspects have extensive criminal pasts, with Symonette having a particularly violent and extensive history with numerous arrests for five different armed robberies, strong arm robbery, aggravated battery deadly weapon, battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing law enforcement, three aggravated assaults, resisting arrest and carrying a concealed firearm. Both are convicted felons forbidden from possessing firearms.

Anyone with information about Symonette, Quintero or the criminal ring of which they are a part can contact BSO Det. David Agusti 954-202-3118 or report information anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Broward County at (954) 493-TIPS (8477) or online at www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
