- PIO Number: 15-4-23
- Date: April 2, 2015
- Time: 4:09 a.m.
- Place of Occurrence: 1401 E. Commercial Blvd., Oakland Park
- Jurisdiction: Oakland Park
- Dennis Norman, 25, male, 10/30/1989, 1530 N.E. 53 St., Fort Lauderdale (surveillance video available)
Description of Incident:
A man shot the middle finger at a surveillance camera right before he stole a Good Humor ice cream cooler from an Oakland Park gas station. It takes the man almost 15 minutes to push and drag the large refrigerated cooler slowly away from the store’s clerk who was asleep on the other side of the window.
At 4:09 a.m. on April 2, Dennis Norman walked up to the Chevron gas station convenience store to find the clerk sleeping inside. The thief initially opened the ice cream cooler, which was located on the outside of the store, as if to make a purchase. He looked closely at the clerk for a minute and then looked directly into the camera and flashed it his middle finger. He then proceeded to examine the cooler more closely. He walked around it and looked at it from different angles. He began to pull the cooler slowly away from the wall, cautiously so as not to disturb the sleeping clerk on the other side of the glass. Dennis was arrested on April 22 and is facing a charge for grand theft.
