Description of Incident:

The Broward Sheriff’s B.A.T. (Burglary Apprehension Team) scored another home run by helping solve burglaries in Central Florida.

On Wednesday, May 28, members of the B.A.T. received information that a vehicle utilized during a residential burglary in Parkland was headed to the Orlando area to be used in more residential burglaries. BSO detectives notified the Winter Garden Police Department and provided a description of the suspects’ vehicle.

After a lieutenant and detective with Winter Garden P.D. confirmed the burglary of a residence in the Westfield subdivision, an officer from the Ocoee Police Department spotted the silver Chevrolet Malibu and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspects fled on foot and were taken into custody a short time later.

Willie Devell Travis Cuyler Jr. and Lance Matthew Riley face burglary of a dwelling and grand theft charges. The victims’ property including a safe, along with jewelry and cash, were recovered inside the suspects’ vehicle. Detectives also confiscated several driver licenses, passports and checkbooks.

BSO’s B.A.T. Task Force was formed this year in March. The priority of B.A.T. is to identify and arrest those responsible for residential burglaries in Broward County. During its first three months, the B.A.T. has made 60 felony and misdemeanor arrests for numerous crimes including burglary, dealing in stolen property, grand theft, grand theft auto and active warrants for armed kidnapping, lewd and lascivious molestation and violation of probation for armed robbery. The team has seized $19,930 in cash and recovered a stolen handgun. To report tips that may help BSO’s B.A.T. Task Force combat burglaries, call (954) 321-4796. For burglaries in progress, dial 911.
