Description of Incident:

Determined thieves targeted cars parked at the Dog Bark Park in Oakland Park and were captured in the act by surveillance cameras. Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the thieving duo.

At 7 p.m. on May 9, Caroline Schildt hid her purse under the seat of her car, thinking it was out of sight and safe. Less than 20 minutes later it was gone, stolen by two thieves cruising the parking lot. Security cameras recorded the two men in a white Ford Focus sedan as they drove around the lot, looked through car windows and finally chose the victim’s grey 2011 Land Rover. The man in the passenger side smashed the victim’s car window and stole her purse, which contained an iPhone, wallet, designer sunglasses, the victim’s license and various credit cards.

Soon after the items were stolen, the men used one of the stolen cards at a BP Gas Station and a Samer Food Market, both in Oakland Park. The victim’s purse was later recovered from a trash dumpster at 2192 W. Oakland Park Blvd. Detectives are searching for two suspects. The first is a heavy set black male, approximately 40 years old, with short hair. He was wearing a white shirt and blue jeans. The second suspect is a black male with long braided hair to the middle of his back. He wore a white shirt and tan pants.

Anyone with information about these suspects is asked to contact BSO Detective Armando Hernández 954-202-3121 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or Crime Stoppers will pay up to $3,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
