Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives have arrested two men who are responsible for the death of a Tamarac man who died one week after being severely beaten.

On September 10th, when William McGrath was admitted to University Hospital in Tamarac, he told members of the staff that some men had beaten him up in his house two days prior.

Following McGrath’s death on Saturday, September 14th, the Broward Medical Examiner’s office notified BSO’s homicide unit to investigate. His death was ruled a homicide, and the ME’s office said he died from complications of blunt trauma.

After canvassing the neighborhood detectives learned that a man, whose first name is “Fred”, had been staying with McGrath for a few weeks in McGrath’s home located at 8113 NW 74 Avenue. When detectives visited some of the areas frequented by Fred, they learned his last name was Allen.

One of McGrath’s friend’s, who identified Fred Allen from a photo line-up, told BSO homicide detectives that Allen and another man went into McGrath’s bedroom on September 7th at about 11 p.m. and instigated a fight with the victim. Through further investigation, detectives identified the second suspect as Darrin Terranova. They also learned that both men returned to McGrath’s home about four hours later (September 8th at approximately 3:30 a.m.) to beat McGrath more severely. The men told detectives they wanted to teach McGrath a lesson. According to the suspects, McGrath had disrespected Allen’s girlfriend.

Allen was arrested Tuesday (September 17th) at 907 Beaumont in Tamarac. He’s being held without bond and faces one open count of murder. Allen is also being held for violating parole out of Ohio and violating probation in Broward County for a past aggravated battery conviction on a pregnant female.

Terranova surrendered to BSO homicide detectives late Wednesday (today) afternoon in the parking lot of a Coral Springs Wendy’s restaurant, located at 10050 West Sample Road. He will be booked into BSO’s Main Jail.
