SECOND SUSPECT WANTED IN BOY’S MURDER
BSO Case Number: PB02-10-2244 (Update 4)
Place of Occurrence: 830 NW 5 Avenue, Pompano Beach
Victim(s): Jawon Matthews, 12, 4075 Lakeside Dr., Tamarac (DECEASED)
Suspect(s): Lavonshea “Von-shay” Wright, 25, 4/30/77, male, Broward County at large
Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide detectives are asking for help in tracking down a career criminal who instigated the murder of a 12-year-old boy.
The instigator, Lavonshea Wright, 25, known on the street as “von-shay,” has not been seen since the afternoon of Sunday, October 6th, when 12-year-old Jawon Matthews was gunned down in cold blood as he sat in the front yard of a house in Pompano Beach. Wright will be charged with Principal in the First Degree (to murder) when he is apprehended.
BSO detectives have determined that Wright got into a fight at the Emerald City lounge the night before the murder. Wright reportedly lost several teeth in the fracas and recruited his friend, Vondeyleyn Sutton, 31, to help mete out revenge. Wright and Sutton both drove to the Lumsdon home, looking for the combatants, and Sutton shot young Jawon twice when he remained in the yard instead of running away. Sutton was arrested by the BSO SWAT team last week (10/9/02) and is jailed on a First Degree Murder charge.
(Von-shay) Wright has been arrested 10 times as an adult on numerous charges including Assault, Theft, Burglary, Trespassing, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana, and Driving Without a License. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to call 911, the Broward Sheriff’s Office at 954-765-4321 or CrimeStoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS. As always, a cash reward is available through CrimeStoppers.
