Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff's Office Homicide detectives have released the names of two men who were shot and killed Tuesday at an apartment complex near Fort Lauderdale.

BSO deputies were dispatched to the Driftwood Terrace apartment complex Tuesday afternoon after 911 operators received reports of gunshots in the area. Arriving deputies found two men lying mortally wounded outside the building at 3128 NW 19th Street. The deceased have now been identified as Jerry “Jay” Smith, 30, and John Calixte, 26. The Broward Medical Examiner has confirmed that both died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds and their deaths are being investigated as murders.

BSO Homicide detectives now believe that Smith and Calixte were adversaries in a gunfight and shot each other. A third person, who might also have been involved, is currently being sought. Anyone with information is asked to call the Broward Sheriff's Office at 954-765-4321 or CrimeStoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS.

None of the gunfight participants live at the Driftwood Terrace Apartments where the shooting occurred and investigators believe the complex could have been a rendezvous point for a drug deal that turned sour, precipitating the gunfire.
