Description of Incident:

The Broward Sheriff’s Office continues to ask for the public’s assistance with locating a habitual offender who recently escaped from the custody of the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office and is wanted in Broward County on several weapons violations.

On October 23, 2002, Robert Derrick Gunn was arrested by the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office during a routine traffic stop. While in custody, Gunn escaped from the backseat of the arresting deputy’s vehicle. During the escape, the deputy was injured.

Gunn is also wanted by the Broward Sheriff’s Office for Aggravated Assault, Grand Theft and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. BSO’s charges stem from a residential burglary in Pompano Beach in late October 2002. The 22 year-old suspect has an extensive criminal record which includes the following offenses: burglary, possession of marijuana, fleeing and eluding police, narcotics violations, drug trafficking, selling cocaine, violation of probation, larceny and escape.

Gunn was last seen on Wednesday, November 6, 2002, selling narcotics outside a convenience store, located at 680 NE 33 Street in Pompano Beach. He was wearing a black hat and was driving a dark gray Mercedes Benz with silver or gray rims. Gunn has also been seen driving a black pickup and a two-door navy-blue vehicle with dark tinted windows. Gunn should be considered armed and dangerous.
