- BSO Case Number: LL02-05-2637
- PIO Number: 02-5-58
- Date: May 28, 2002
- Time: 0938
- Place of Occurrence: BSO Auto Service Center, 2001 NW 31 Ave., uninc. Fort Lauderdale
- Sgt. Raphael Wolfe, 50, Broward Sheriff's Office (DECEASED)
Description of Incident:
A veteran Broward Sheriff's Office supervisor died this morning, the apparent result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Fellow deputies launched a search for Sgt. Raphael Wolfe at about 8:30 a.m. after being advised by family and friends that he had told them in telephone conversations that he intended to take his own life. Deputies went to Sgt. Wolfe’s home in North Lauderdale but learned that he had already left for work. After determining that he had failed to arrive for work as scheduled, the search intensified.
At 9:38 a.m., a deputy found Sgt. Wolfe inside his unmarked BSO vehicle, parked on the south side of the Service Center, BSO’s automobile maintenance facility. He was deceased, apparently the result of a gunshot fired from his service weapon.
An autopsy will be performed by the Broward Medical Examiner to officially establish the cause of death. Per standard procedure in all unnatural deaths, BSO Homicide and Crime detectives are investigating.
Sgt. Wolfe joined the Broward Sheriff's Office in 1990 and was most recently assigned to District 11, supervising detectives who investigate property crimes in Pompano Beach.
