Description of Incident:

The body of an unidentified man was found floating in a canal in the Palm Aire Country Club Monday morning. Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide detectives are investigating the death.

At 10:18 a.m. on August 11, South Florida Water Management District maintenance workers were performing maintenance to the C-14 canal in Palm Aire when they saw a body in the water. The body was pressed up against a floating barricade just north of the pumping station. Broward Sheriff’s Office Pompano Beach deputies responded to the scene and established a perimeter. BSO Homicide Unit, Crime Scene Unit and Dive Team all responded, as did the Medical Examiner’s Office and Interstate Removal Services.

It’s unclear at this time how long the body was in the water. The victim could not be readily identified due to the condition of the body. Homicide detectives will be employing alternative investigative techniques, such as dental records, missing person’s reports and facial reconstruction to determine the victim’s identity. Cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
