  • Shawn Brown, 28, 9/13/73, male, 2791 NW 25 Street, Fort Lauderdale

Description of Incident:

A Fort Lauderdale man, who makes a habit of victimizing kindhearted teenage boys, has struck again after being released from jail.

Shawn Brown, 28, was arrested on November 21, 2001, and charged in connection with several strong-armed robberies. During these robberies, Brown approaches his victims, and asks if they can assist with moving his disabled vehicle. Once he lures them to a secluded area he robs them, taking jewelry, cell phones and cash. Most of his victims are black males in their teens.

Since he bonded out of jail on January 14, 2002, Broward Sheriff's Office robbery detectives believe he’s up to his old criminal tricks. Brown is also wanted on a no bond warrant for failure to show up for his arraignment.

BSO detectives said Brown struck most recently, on March 17th at the Fort Lauderdale Swap Shop, located at 3291 West Sunrise Boulevard. About 1:30 Sunday afternoon, Brown walked up to Hector Jimenez and offered him $30 to help him push his car out of the road (off of NW 31 Avenue). While walking with Brown, Jimenez said the suspect stopped him and told him not to move while he snatched Jimenez’s gold chain from his neck. Brown fled on foot.

Familiar with Brown’s mode of operation, detectives quickly identified him as a possible suspect, and have been able to link him to the robbery of Jimenez.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Shawn Brown is urged to call BSO Robbery Det. Steve Sudman at (954) 321-4270 or call Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at (954) 493-TIPS.
