Description of Incident:

The Broward Sheriff's Office is releasing the name of a homeless man whose body was discovered in the meter room of an Oakland Park office building Wednesday.

The deceased was James Foley, 40, who lived at large with no permanent address. BSO Homicide detectives notified his family in Illinois. In the past year, Foley was arrested a half-dozen times in Broward County for petty crimes including Trespassing and Disorderly Conduct.

The Broward Medical Examiner has not yet determined the exact cause of death and will await the result of toxicology tests which could reveal what underlying disease led to Foley’s demise. There were no signs of serious trauma on the body nor any indications of foul play.

Shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday, an anonymous caller phoned 911 and reported that a body was lying inside the meter room at 4141 North Andrews Avenue. BSO District 12 deputies responded and did find a deceased person at that location. Per standard procedure, Homicide and Crime Scene detectives were dispatched to the scene to investigate.

While detectives and deputies were on the scene the 911 caller came forward and told them the dead man was named James Foley and that he had spent Christmas evening drinking with him.
