Suspect(s): Felipe Alex Torrealba, male, 26, 6/7/86 (IN CUSTODY)

Description of Incident:

A suspect in the March murder of a Weston man was captured Thursday night in Fort Myers by the U.S. Marshals Service. Felipe Alex Torrealba, 26, had been sought by the U.S. Marshals Task Force since January and was added to the agency’s 15 Most Wanted list in October.

Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives consider Torrealba as a suspect in the homicide of 42-year-old Kris Smalls of Weston. Smalls was reported missing March 18 and was found dead in his SUV a week later in Weston. Torrealba has a long criminal history, along with warrants for his arrest in Broward and Miami-Dade counties on unrelated charges. He made headlines in January when he prompted Sweetwater Police officers to shoot at him as he fled after a traffic stop. Officers had stopped him for driving a stolen car and discovered that he had warrants on narcotics and assault charges. Torrealba fled and was hit in the ear by an officer’s bullet.

He was booked late Thursday into BSO’s Main Jail on multiple charges of drug trafficking and possession, resisting arrest and aggravated assault.

Media note: Torrealba’s mug shot is attached to this release.
