Description of Incident:
Thursday morning, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a man with an extensive criminal history wanted for a series of thefts of beer and steaks from Publix stores throughout the county. The thirsty thief now faces five new charges and a bond of several thousand dollars.
David Wayne Kirkwood was arrested at 2 a.m. Thursday, when a quick thinking BSO deputy spotted his car at the Seminole Indian Truck Stop from information listed on a BOLO issued by BSO. Five times in the last few weeks Kirkwood had targeted Publix grocery stores in the city of Weston. Each time he stole more than $100 worth of cases of beer and packages of meat. He was also wanted for similar thefts in Plantation, Davie and Cooper City.
Kirkwood has a criminal history dating back to 2002, which includes charges for second degree murder, battery, cocaine possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, burglary, burglary of an occupied dwelling, grand theft and violation of probation. He is facing five charges for petit theft and is being held on $3750 bond.
