Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff's Office robbery detectives are releasing surveillance video in the hopes of identifying an armed suspect who robbed a check-cashing store in Oakland Park on Saturday following the Thanksgiving holiday.

The unidentified suspect walked through the front door of Advance America, pointed a black handgun at the clerk and said “You know what time it is.” Fearing for her life, the clerk showed the robber the empty cash register draw. The suspect, who masked his face with a stocking, walked behind the counter and took an undisclosed amount of cash from another employee.

The suspect demanded money from the safe, which was in the rear of the store. Then he instructed one of the employees to open the back door where he made his escape on foot.

The two female employees were the only two in the check advance center, located at 135 East Oakland Park Boulevard, when the robbery occurred. Fortunately, no shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

The suspect was last seen wearing a Nike baseball cap, a black T-shirt, and dark colored pants. He is believed to be approximately five feet eight inches tall and about 170 pounds. The victims said he did not speak with an accent. They believe the suspect is a black male.

Anyone with information on this case and/or the identity of the suspect is asked to call BSO Robbery Det. Bob Kerr at (954) 321-4270 or call Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at (954) 493-TIPS.
