Members of the Broward Sheriff's Office Special Weapons and Tactics Team will be participating in a training exercise Thursday morning at Parkway Middle School near Fort Lauderdale.

Broward County Fire Rescue will also participate. Students enrolled in Parkway’s Summer GREAT program will play the role of hostages in the scenario, designed to simulate a school shooting situation.

News media will be allowed to cover the event, although interaction with the SWAT team will be limited. To coordinate, contact the School Resource Officer, Deputy Larry Klarman at 954-914-3982.

Media note: if you receive calls from concerned citizens regarding the SWAT and Fire Rescue action at Parkway Middle School, please advise them that it is only a training exercise.
