Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff’s Office sex crimes detectives have arrested a registered sex offender who this morning unsuccessfully attempted to lure an 11 year-old girl into his car.

The incident occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m., Monday, January 13, 2003 on the 2500 block of NE 3rd Avenue in Pompano Beach. The victim, an 11 year-old female, was walking to school when the suspect, 38 year-old Enold Aristhomene, drove up along side her in his white 1993 convertible Mercury Capri.

The suspect repeatedly asked the victim if she needed a ride and the Crystal Lakes Middle School student repeatedly refused. A witness, who feared the child was being harassed, flagged down a BSO deputy and reported the incident.

Moments later, Aristhomene’s vehicle was stopped just blocks away from where the incident took place. Investigators interviewed both the child and the suspect. Aristhomene was subsequently placed under arrest and is charged with Luring and Enticing a Minor, Loitering and Prowling, and Failing to register as a Sex Offender.

Aristhomene has a lengthy criminal record that includes arrests for Sexual Battery and Kidnapping.

The child’s parents were notified of the incident, and the victim was placed in contact with a school guidance counselor.
