BSO INVESTIGATING APPARENT DROWNING

BSO Case Number: LS02-04-552
PIO Number: 02-4-53
Date: April 25, 2002
Place of Occurrence: 4200 block of El Mar Drive, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea

Victim(s):

  • Yves Senecal, 51, 12/31/50, 984 Beatty, Montreal, Canada (deceased)

Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff's Office homicide detectives are investigating the apparent drowning death of a Montreal, Canada man who died Thursday afternoon.

Sometime around 2:10 pm on April 25, 2002, a call came in of a man in trouble on the beach in the 4200 block of El Mar Drive in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. BSO was first on the scene and attempted to administer life-saving measures to 51-year old Yves Senecal before he was transported to Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale. He was pronounced dead shortly after 3:00 pm.

It appears that Mr. Senecal, who was visiting south Florida and staying at the Beach Wind Motel, went swimming in the ocean, became caught in a rip current, and drowned. The exact cause of death, however, will be determined by the Medical Examiner. Mr. Senecal was scheduled to return home to Quebec on Friday, April 26, 2002.

At this time, Broward Sheriff's Office detectives do not consider the death of Mr. Senecal suspicious.
