MURDER IN OAKLAND PARK

BSO Case Number: OP03-01-0410

Victim(s): Jorge Bergata Garcia, 32, 1/25/69, male, Oakland Park (DECEASED)

Suspect(s): unknown

Description of Incident:

The Broward Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of a man’s body in the bed of his pickup truck parked outside an Oakland Park convenience store.

The body of Jorge Bergata Garcia, 32, was found in the bed of a red Toyota pickup parked in front of Tamer’s Food Mart at 4601 NE 6th Avenue shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday. The operator of the store told BSO detectives he noticed the truck when he arrived to open the business at about 10:30 a.m. When the truck had not been moved a half-hour later he went outside to examine the vehicle and noticed Garcia’s body lying in the truckbed. BSO deputies responded to the scene, along with Fire Rescue paramedics, who determined that Garcia was dead.

Detectives are releasing few details concerning the murder, other than to say there were obvious signs of trauma on the body and foul play is suspected. It is not known whether Garcia was murdered in the store parking lot of whether he was killed elsewhere. The truck was towed to the BSO Crime Lab for processing. The Broward Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Garcia was a citizen of El Salvador and had recently been living in Oakland Park.

Anyone with any information concerning Jorge Bergata Garcia is asked to call the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit at 954-321-4210 or CrimeStoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS.
