Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff's Office Robbery detectives are hoping the public can help them identify an armed robbery suspect caught on surveillance tape robbing then kidnapping a gas station clerk in Pompano Beach.

On Saturday, June 29, 2002, the unidentified suspect entered the Shell gas station located at 3551 North Powerline Road shortly after 9 p.m. and purchased a Concha sweet bread then left the store. Cashier Antonio Neto told BSO deputies the suspect returned to the store at approximately 9:30 p.m., this time armed with a gun and demanding cash. Fearing for his life, Neto complied with the suspect’s demands. Including the suspect’s request for a ride.

After taking an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect ordered Neto at gunpoint to give him a ride to the Collier City area of Pompano Beach. When Neto reached the 2900 block of NW 8 Street, the suspect stole his jewelry and cellular phone before fleeing on foot. Fortunately, the victim was not injured.

The unidentified black male suspect is believed to be just over six feet tall and approximately 230 pounds with a short afro and receding hairline. Anyone with information on the identity and/or whereabouts of the suspect is urged to call BSO Robbery Det. Dominic DiPerna at (954) 321-4270 or call Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at (954) 493-TIPS.

MEDIA NOTE: A DECENT QUALITY BLACK AND WHITE SURVEILLANCE VIDEO IS AVAILABLE FOR YOUR REPRODUCTION AT BSO’S MEDIA RELATIONS UNTIL 5 P.M. TODAY.
