ANNUAL JAIL ART SHOW & AUCTION

There are painters who transform the sun to a yellow spot, but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence, transform a yellow spot into the sun.
--Pablo Picasso

From those awaiting trial or convicted of a crime comes the often sublime and sometimes strange artwork of dozens of detainees residing in the BSO detention facilities. The works speak volumes for those who, for the time being, call a jail cell home.

On Saturday, October 12, 2002, the fourth Annual Broward Sheriff's Office Inmate Art Exhibit and Sale begins in Plantation with a 6:00 p.m. grand opening at the Shacknow Museum of Fine Arts, 7080 NW 4th Street. The event runs through December 7, 2002. Money raised from the sale of the art will benefit two worthy charities, Abandoned Pet Rescue in Ft. Lauderdale and the Shacknow Museum scholarship fund.
