Description of Incident:

The man responsible for the armed robbery of the Metro PCS in February was taken into custody. The robbery, which was caught on the store’s surveillance video, is just the latest crime for a habitual offender with an extensive criminal history going back 15 years.

At 5:53 p.m. on February 13, Anthony Smith entered the Metro PCS in Pompano Beach armed with a silver handgun. The store clerk, Jimmy Rene, was helping two customers when Smith charged in and pointed a gun at Rene’s head. Smith demanded the cash in the register. Once he had the money he fled the store.

Smith was arrested March 17 and will face a charge of robbery with a firearm. He has 17 prior arrests for offenses such as lewd and lascivious battery of a child less than 16 years of age, impregnating a minor, contributing the delinquency of a child, cocaine possession, cocaine possession with intent to sell, cannabis possession and multiple probation violations.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact BSO Detective Steven Hoover at 954-321-4270 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
