Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff's Office Traffic Homicide detectives are investigating a mid-morning crash that left one man dead and three other people with minor injuries after two semi tractor-trailers collided on US 27 in Weston Friday.

The traffic fatality occurred at approximately 11:20 a.m. Both rigs were traveling south on US 27 when one crashed into the other north of Griffin Road near the 1600 block. BSO THI detectives are trying to determine why the driver of the second 18-wheeler crashed into the other truck.

The driver of the second 18-wheeler, who remained pinned inside the cab of the truck for hours, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other people were transported to Cleveland Clinic where they were treated and released. The deceased driver is believed to be from Boynton Beach. His name is being withheld until his relatives are notified of his death. The other three victims, from Miami-Dade County, were all traveling in the first trailer. None of names are available at this time.

At the time of this writing, both southbound lanes of US 27 north of Griffin near the 1600 block remain closed while various agencies - EPA, DOT, and Westway Towing – work to clean up the scene. Investigators anticipate opening the lanes about two hours from now (early Friday evening).
