BSO Case Number: OP02-05-06057

Victim(s): Names withheld: three 11-year-old girls

Suspect(s): Stephen Levenson, 58, 1/17/44, 2441 E. Aragon Blvd., Sunrise

Description of Incident:

The Broward Sheriff's Office has arrested a music teacher for fondling three girls at a middle school in Oakland Park.

Stephen Levenson, 58, was arrested Monday on two counts of Molestation and one count of Lewd and Lascivious Conduct. The unlawful acts actually occurred during the 2001-2002 school year and were first reported last May, at the end of that school year. An 11-year-old girl told her mother that Levenson had fondled her during class and the mother reported it to school officials. The Broward Sheriff’s Office was contacted and an investigation was initiated. Levenson was immediately reassigned to a non-teaching position within the school system.

Through the investigation, detectives identified two other girls who were molested by Levenson. The criminal acts all occurred during band or chorus class and involved Levenson touching the girls’ private areas through their clothes. Levenson refused to give a statement to detectives.

Levenson was booked Monday at BSO’s main jail and was released early Tuesday on $35,000 bond.

Any other students or children who have had inappropriate contact with Stephen Levenson are asked to call the BSO Sex Crimes Unit at 954-321-4240.
