Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff’s Office school resource deputies have arrested a Deerfield Beach man for masturbating in front of two young sisters while on their way to school.

The incident took place Thursday, December 12, 2002, at approximately 8:00 a.m. According to investigators, the sisters, who attend Tedder Elementary School in Pompano Beach, witnessed 49 year-old Robert Campbell masturbating behind some bushes as they walked past the 4000 block of Military Trail. Fortunately, the subject never had contact with his victims.

Once at the school, one of the frightened sisters approached the school’s BSO assigned SRO deputy and informed him of what she and her sister had just witnessed. The 5th grader was also able to provide a good description of the subject. The SRO deputy immediately wrote up an incident report, contacted other area schools and issued a BOLO with the subject’s description.

Moments later, a white male fitting the subject’s description was located and detained on the corner of West Sample Road and Military Trial. Although the subject could not provide deputies with valid identification, the child was able to positively identify him as the offender.

Investigators later learned the subject was no stranger to BSO. The subject was identified as Robert Campbell of Deerfield Beach who has an extensive criminal record that includes arrests for Grand Theft, Petty Theft, Public Drinking, and Disorderly Conduct.

Campbell is currently behind bars at the North Broward Detention Facility. His bond has been set at $3,500.
