LOOSE CHANGE ROBBER ARRESTED

Thanks to a Crime Stoppers tip provided to Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives after news outlets released video of a man dubbed the “Loose Change Robber,” he is now in custody.

Investigators arrested Christian Lee Fletcher, 42, Thursday, June 27, without incident after a news viewer recognized him from surveillance video of a robbery at a North Lauderdale gas station May 7.

The incident happened around 7:15 p.m. at 7100 W. McNab Rd. in North Lauderdale.

Initially, the video shows Fletcher walking around the store browsing through the merchandise.  He grabs a beverage and approaches the checkout counter with a dollar bill and loose change.  The suspect asks the clerk to add a cigar to his purchase. When the register pops open, Fletcher reaches for the money and flees.  He was seen getting into a 1994-95, gold, four-door Toyota Camry.
 
Fletcher’s facing a larceny/petit theft charge and a violation of probation for unrelated criminal mischief.
