CALEA, the nation’s largest accreditation organization, establishes professional standards for communication centers and continually evaluates its member agencies to make certain those standards are maintained. Every three years, a formal reaccreditation process occurs that requires agencies to demonstrate adherence to professionally recognized criteria for excellence in management and service delivery.

BSO is the nation’s largest fully accredited public safety agency and was accredited by CALEA as a law enforcement agency in 1999. CALEA now offers a public safety communications-specific accreditation, which is to elevate the level of service provided by communications professionals. As a regionalized 9-1-1 communications center, BSO’s members are committed to these high standards and best practices.

Residents may speak with the assessment team by telephone or by writing to CALEA at

10302 Eaton Place, Suite 100, Fairfaix, VA 22030-2215.
