Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are looking for a man who broke the law for a smoke. Surveillance video captured the man on multiple occasions buying cartons of Marlboro cigarettes with stolen credit cards.

The most recent incident happened January 29 when a woman who had taken her kids to play at Liberty Park in Parkland noticed two men lurking near her car. She realized later that her window had been smashed and her purse stolen. When she called to cancel her credit cards, she learned that one card had been used at a CVS at 8151 Wiles Road in Coral Springs. Detectives are releasing clear surveillance video from the store that shows the man, who has short-cropped dark hair, a mustache and goatee, buying cigarettes. He appears to be in his mid-30s and wore a white, collared dress shirt and jeans.

Detectives believe he is responsible for multiple car burglaries throughout the county since 2008. He routinely uses stolen credit cards at grocery or convenience stores and buys Marlboros every time.

Anyone who recognizes this criminal can contact BSO Detective Michael McCloskey at (954) 753-5050 or anonymously report information to Crime Stoppers of Broward County at (954) 495-TIPS (8477) or online at www.browardcrimestoppers.org. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for anonymous tips that lead to an arrest or conviction.

Media note: Surveillance video from January 29, 2011 at CVS is available for your reproduction at www.sheriff.org. Still surveillance photos from a Publix and a Walgreens on August 10, 2010 are attached to this release.
