  • 2. 39-year-old Boca Raton woman

  • Guy Cherubin, 31, 6/7/77, male, 1310 NE 4 Street, Pompano Beach

Description of Incident:

Good police work and DNA evidence led to the arrest of a Pompano Beach man who brutally raped two women. Broward Sheriff’s Office Sex Crimes detectives believe there may be more victims.

On September 2, 2008, a homeless woman was violently attacked and raped on the beach in Pompano Beach near the 200 block of Pompano Beach Boulevard around 5:00 a.m. BSO sex crimes detectives said the suspect, who was later identified as Guy Cherubin, covered the 48-year-old woman’s face, forced her to the ground, and placed a sharp object against her side which he claimed was a knife. After threatening to kill her if she didn’t comply, Cherubin then sexually forced himself on her without her consent.

A similar attack took place on September 13, 2008 at approximately 2:30 a.m. in Pompano Beach. Shortly after leaving the Briny Pub, a 39-year-old Boca Raton woman was walking toward the beach near 10 Pompano Beach Boulevard when Cherubin approached her, knocked her to the ground, and proceeded to punch and kick her about the face and body before sexually battering her.

Both rape victims were transported to the Sexual Assault Treatment Center in Fort Lauderdale where their cases were documented and further evidence was collected. The victim from the September 13 attack received additional treatment at a nearby hospital for her injuries, which included several broken ribs.

Analysis of DNA specimens collected from both cases was conducted at the BSO Crime Lab and a case to case match was found. During the course of the investigation, BSO Sex Crimes Detective Eric Hendel reached out to other law enforcement agencies to determine if they had similar cases. Det. Hendel learned that Fort Lauderdale police had identified Cherubin as a suspect in a couple of their cases, and they had a DNA sample. When Cherubin’s DNA was analyzed against the evidence, BSO investigators said it positively linked him to the September attacks and two Fort Lauderdale cases, one in 2006 and the other in 2007.

Cherubin was arrested on Monday, November 10 and booked in BSO’s Main Jail on one count each of armed sexual battery and sexual battery using great force. He remains in jail on no bond. While additional charges are expected, BSO investigators want to hear from any other victims. Anyone who may have fallen prey to Guy Cherubin is urged to call BSO Sex Crimes Det. Eric Hendel at (954) 321-4240 or call Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at (954) 493-TIPS or online at
