Description of Incident:

The Broward Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help in capturing a violent robbery suspect who has been preying upon women in central Broward County.

The suspect, Reginald Bynum, is named in an arrest warrant charging him with strong-arm robbery for assaulting three different women in Lauderdale Lakes and snatching their gold necklaces. The 27-year-old career criminal was released from Florida State Prison last June after serving three years for two armed robberies and a cocaine offense. It was his second prison stretch – he started his first at age 19 after being convicted of committing two armed hold-ups in 1995.

Suspected of victimizing at least six local women, Bynum has been positively identified (through photo lineups) by three of them. On November 30th, 2002, Bynum attacked a 34-year-old woman in the stairwell of her apartment home at 3961 NW 21 Street in Lauderdale Lakes. Bynum snatched her $400 neck chain and ran from the scene. On December 4th, 2002, Bynum accosted a 30-year-old woman at the same apartment building. He chased her down a hallway, pushed her into a concrete wall and ripped-off her $200 gold necklace before fleeing on foot. Most recently, on January 14th, Bynum approached a 63-year-old woman sitting on a bus bench in the 2900 block of North State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes. He forcibly tore a $125 gold chain from her neck and then fled the area on a bicycle. In all three cases, the women suffered abrasions and minor neck injuries but were not seriously hurt.

Reginald Bynum has a history of physical violence and use of weapons. Anyone with information concerning his whereabouts is urged to dial 911, or call the BSO Robbery Unit at 954-321-4270, or CrimeStoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS.
