Description of Incident:

At least three men in separate vehicles teamed up in the early morning hours of April 25 to siphon more than 300 gallons of diesel fuel from a Dania Beach Chevron station.

Around 1:30 a.m., a full-sized, white van with a gray stripe around its body, a white minivan and a black pickup drove into the station together. The vans parked facing each other, with the minivan parking directly over the covers to the underground diesel tank. The pickup parked at the gas pump next to the white van, both blocking the clerk’s vision of the minivan from the store. Detectives believe the minivan had a removable floorboard that gave the thieves concealed access to the fuel tank cover below.

The theft was undiscovered until an inventory of the tank was made later that morning.
A surveillance video shows a white man, in his mid-20s or 30s, with buzz-cut hair and a goatee, exiting the black pickup and making a purchase from the clerk inside the store.

Moments later, a bald-headed, white man, between 50 and 60 years old, with an ear bud in his right ear, leaves the white van and also enters the store to buy some items. Shortly thereafter, the video shows all three vehicles leaving the station and exiting onto Griffin Road.

Nobody spent a penny on the more than $1,141 worth of fuel stolen.

Anyone who recognizes the two suspects seen on surveillance video or has information about the theft is asked to contact BSO Detective Edward Valderrama at 954-518-0153 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or A reward of up to $3,000 is available for information leading to an arrest.

MEDIA NOTE: Good quality video is available on our website Pictures of two suspects are attached to this release.
