OPERATION HOLLY JOLLY DINNER

BSO PROVIDES MEALS FOR 200 FAMILIES

The Sheriff's Advisory Council, Kathleen Windridge of Windridge Charters Inc., Sheriff Scott Israel and the Broward Sheriff's Office hosted Operation Holly Jolly Dinner, an event created to help make the holidays a little brighter for 200 needy families in Broward County.

The holidays are a time for celebration for most families but many folks simply don’t have the means to provide a special holiday meal for their family. The Sheriff's Advisory Council wanted to put a smile on the faces of families that needed a little help making this holiday season bright.

Sheriff Israel, BSO school resource deputies and road patrol deputies worked together with school principals to identify and invite 200 families to take part in Operation Holly Jolly Dinner. Each family received a food box with enough food to feed 10 people. Items included a nine pound ham, yams with marshmallows, stuffing, cranberry sauce, candy for the kids and an apple pie.

The food was distributed on December 24, 2013 at the Lauderdale Lakes Senior Center, 4340 N.W. 36 St., Lauderdale Lakes. The site was decorated for the season and refreshments were on hand for the families. Santa made an appearance to add a little extra holiday cheer. BSO employees, Sheriff's Advisory Council members, the Israel family and city officials from the City of Lauderdale Lakes volunteered during the event.
