Description of Incident:

BSO Traffic Homicide detectives are asking the public for help in identifying a hit-and-run driver involved in a crash that left a mother-to-be hospitalized and left her nearly full-term infant dead.

The crash occurred on March 14th at 9:48 p.m. at the intersection of Copans and Blount Roads. Ethelyn Morris, 34, was a front seat passenger in a Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Brian Jones, 18, traveling westbound on Copans Road. A 1999 green Lincoln Navigator (SUV) was eastbound on Copans. Both vehicles had a green light at the Blount Road intersection, where Jones made a left turn into the path of the oncoming Navigator. The Navigator rammed the passenger’s side of the Chevy truck, critically injuring Morris.

After the collision the driver of the Navigator fled the scene on foot, leaving her wrecked vehicle behind, along with the two injured people in the pickup.

BSO deputies and paramedics responded to the crash. Morris was flown by BSO helicopter to Broward General Medical Center. She was approximately eight months pregnant and doctors declared the fetus dead on arrival. Morris remains at BGMC in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

BSO Traffic Homicide detectives are working to positively identify the woman who was driving the Lincoln Navigator, which has been impounded. The man who leased the Lincoln was outside Florida when the crash occurred. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information regarding the female hit-and-run driver is asked to call BSO at (954) 786-4200 or CrimeStoppers at 493-TIPS.
