Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff's Office robbery detectives are looking for an armed robber with an appetite for cash and a single, size ten-and-a-half athletic shoe.

At about 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2002, the fleet footed felon walked into the Athletes Foot shoe store at 13 South Pompano Parkway and told the clerk he wanted to find a pair of shoes. It was near closing time, but the clerk, 22-year old Fernanda Cabral allowed the man to try on a pair of Michael Jordan “Jump Man” shoes.

As Cabral began to ring up the sale, the thief pulled a handgun from his pocket, pressed into the side of the startled clerk, and told her to put one of the shoes, the store’s cordless telephone, and her personal cell phone into a plastic bag. He then ordered Cabral to hand over all the money in the cash drawer. Before leaving the store, the robber ordered the clerk into a bathroom, told her to count to 100, and threatened to shoot her if she called for help.

The suspect is a black male, between the ages of 35 and 50, approximately 5-foot-9 inches tall, about 250 pounds with a goatee beard and mustache, and short-cropped hair. Crime scene photos of the suspect are attached to this news release, posted on the Broward Sheriff’s Office website: www.sheriff.org.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000.00 for information leading to the arrest of this dangerous crook. Anyone with information on this crime should call (954) 493-TIPS.
