Free vehicle theft deterrents and “clubs” offered Saturday in Tamarac

On Saturday, February 1st, deputies in BSO District 7 Tamarac will offer free motor vehicle theft deterrents to area residents from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Tamarac City Hall, 7525 NW 88th Avenue. Deputies will provide free VIN etching and C.A.T. (Combat Auto Theft) program registration to all vehicles and free “clubs” (steering wheel locking devices) to owners of the 10 most frequently stolen vehicles in South Florida:

  • Toyota Camry
  • Honda Accord
  • Toyota Corolla
  • Honda Civic
  • Chevrolet Caprice
  • Nissan Maxima
  • Dodge Caravan/Grand Caravan
  • Ford F150 Pickup
  • Oldsmobile Cutlass/Supreme/Ciera

C.A.T. is a remarkably effective way for citizens and law enforcement to work together to keep vehicle theft in check. When a vehicle is registered for C.A.T., a highly visible sticker is placed in the vehicle’s rear window, alerting law enforcement that the car or truck should not be on the road between 1:00 am and 5:00 am. It's a great way to help cut down on nighttime auto theft.,VIN (vehicle identification number) etching puts an inconspicuous, factory-assigned identification number on each window of a vehicle, making it less desirable to thieves.,For more information on the BSO free VIN etching or C.A.T. programs, contact Sgt. Robert Logan at (954)720-2225.
