When a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy realized four children and their grandmother were living in a car, he reached out to two other deputies for help. Today, the once-struggling family is back on its feet and living in a safe and comfortable home thanks in part to the efforts of deputies Edward Ragauskas, Doug Lashbrook and Detective Lisa Sokol. The three will be among the honorees Friday morning at BSO’s annual awards ceremony.
Broward Sheriff Scott Israel will recognize the contributions of BSO deputies, civilian personnel, support staff, firefighters and paramedics, as well as private citizens at Friday’s ceremony at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. He will present Gold Cross Awards to deputies who remained brave and dedicated to duty in the face of grave danger. He will give a Special Recognition Award posthumously to Nikki, a special animal that educated the public about the cruelty of chaining dogs. A talented forensic artist and robbery detective will win the Detective of the Year Award.
“These honorees represent the best of BSO and our community,” Sheriff Scott Israel said. “I’m proud to share the stage with them today.”
