Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff's Office Robbery detectives are hoping to take the bounce out of the step of a counter-hopping crook who robbed an Oakland Park convenience store at gunpoint. There is a reward of up to $1,000.00 for information leading to the arrest of the armed robber.

At about 5:15 the morning of Saturday, October 12, 2002, 25-year old Jean –Francois Eliazar was working near the back coolers of the 7-11 at 600 East Oakland Park Boulevard. He heard someone enter the store and looked up to see a black male wearing a ski mask and gloves walk in carrying a pistol. The armed crook ordered Eliazar to the front of the store and then noticed a second employee, 30-year old Martelia Toussaint trying to lock herself in an office.

The masked robber jumped the counter, forced the office door open before Toussaint could secure it. While Eliazar ran to the back of the store for safety, the robber pointed his gun at Toussaint and forced the woman to open the cash registers. While the crook emptied the cash drawers, a customer walked into the store but quickly left when she noticed the masked and armed man. Seconds later, the thief ran out of the store and headed towards a nearby business parking lot where he disappeared.

The suspect is a black male, approximately 16-20 years old. He was wearing a black ski mask, light-colored gloves, and a dark t-shirt. He is about 5-foot-7 and weighs approximately 145 pounds. He appears to be right handed. Photos of the crook are attached to this news release and available on the BSO website at WWW.SHERIFF.ORG.

Anyone with information on this case should call Crime Stoppers anonymously at (954) 493-TIPS to claim the $1,000.00 reward.
