Description of Incident:

A motorcyclist is dead after colliding with a pickup truck Friday afternoon in Deerfield Beach.

Just before 1:30 p.m., Derick Grace, 45, of Deerfield Beach, was operating his 2006 Suzuki Boulevard motorcycle northbound in the 4000 block of Northeast 3 Avenue when he attempted to avoid striking a northbound vehicle in front of him. As he veered to the left to avoid colliding with that vehicle, he lost control and went into the path of a southbound pickup truck hauling a landscape trailer. The pickup truck’s driver steered to the right, in an attempt to avoid colliding with the motorcycle however, Grace could not regain control and slammed into the landscape vehicle.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Deerfield Beach units responded and pronounced the victim dead on the scene. Northbound 3 Avenue was closed from Sample Road to Northeast 48 Street. Traffic was detoured around the busy north-south thoroughfare for almost three hours as the crash investigation was conducted on the scene. Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives are handling the investigation however, no charges have been filed in connection with the crash.
