Description of Incident:

The Broward Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday evening near West Hollywood.

At 6:18 p.m. an anonymous called dialed 911, reporting that an accidental shooting had occurred at 4430 SW 40th Street near West Hollywood. BSO deputies responded and checked the house. In an adjoining efficiency apartment they found the body of a man who had apparently been shot to death. Paramedics checked the victim and determined that he was deceased.

The 39-year-old man believed responsible for the killing left the scene immediately after the fatal shot was fired and may have been the 911 caller. He subsequently told other acquaintances that the shooting was an accident. Late Sunday night, deputies and detectives were attempting to locate him to obtain a statement as to exactly how the shooting occurred, but he remained at large.

The victim’s identity is currently unknown. He is a male, apparently in his 20s or early 30s.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting or the whereabouts of the shooter is urged to either dial 911, call the Broward Sheriff's Office at 765-4321 or call CrimeStoppers, anonymously, at 493-TIPS.
