Those attending the UNIFEST 2002 Multicultural Festival, sponsored in-part by the city of Lauderdale Lakes, will enjoy live entertainment, international sports, children’s activities, stilt dancers, arts & crafts, a job fair, business expo, health fair and an array of culinary delights from the Caribbean.
On Saturday, August 24th, from noon until 4 p.m., employees from the Broward Sheriff's Office will be participating in this spirited two-day festival highlighting the diversity and history of the city’s multicultural community. BSO’s Sex Crimes/Missing Persons Unit will be on hand giving out books, pamphlets and other information relating to sexual abuse and other sex crimes. Sheriff’s Office victim advocate counselors will also be available to answer questions dealing with domestic violence and victims’ rights. Children will be given tips on how to stay safe by watching a 20-minute Stranger Danger puppet show starting at 1 p.m. and again at 3 p.m.
The celebration continues Sunday, August 25th with a parade starting at 12 p.m. The carnival street parade will start at 41 Street and State Road 7 and head north to Vincent Torres Memorial Park. BSO deputies will have the southbound lanes of State Road 7 (441) closed from Commercial Boulevard to NW 36 Street between noon and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Northwest 36 Street from State Road 7 to NW 43 Avenue will be closed both days from noon until 9 p.m.
