Description of Incident:
One suspect is in custody and another is dead after the two robbed a consignment shop in Deerfield Beach late Wednesday afternoon.
Just before 3 p.m., a veteran BSO deputy on patrol in the area of 3280 West Hillsboro Boulevard, spotted two suspects fleeing Hanky Panky’s after committing an armed robbery. The deputy followed the suspects and notified BSO dispatchers of the incident.
Less than ten minutes later, both vehicles collided near the intersection of SW 4 Street and Powerline Road, where the suspects bailed out of the Honda Odyssey mini-van. Investigators later learned the mini-van was stolen from Sunrise on Tuesday and is registered by a Plantation resident.
Once outside the vehicle, witnesses said one of the suspect’s pointed his gun at the deputy. Responding to the suspect’s life threatening actions, the BSO deputy fired his gun and fatally wounded the suspect who was pronounced at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The suspect, who fled south on foot, was taken into custody without incident about 3:30 p.m. The suspect, whose name has not been released, was located hiding in some bushes on the southeast corner of a BSO Deerfield Beach substation at 580 S. Powerline Road. Charges are pending the outcome of this investigation.
Per departmental policy and procedure, this case is also being reviewed by BSO’s Office of Professional Compliance, and the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave.
