  • Richard Morgan, 81, Pompano Beach; Denny’s; State of Florida

  • unknown male

Description of Incident:

A shotgun-wielding robber, wearing a Miami Dolphins cap and jacket, made off with an elderly man’s wallet during a bungled holdup at a Pompano Beach Denny’s restaurant Monday night (2/19/07).

The crime occurred at 9:25 pm at the Denny’s at 2671 North Federal Highway. The suspect entered the restaurant and pointed his weapon at the manager standing at the front counter. The manager screamed, ran into the ladies room and locked the door. The robber ordered everyone to the floor, including 81-year-old Richard Morgan and his wife, who were waiting near the register to pay their dinner check. The suspect tried to open the register but could not figure out how to operate the cash drawer. Failing at that, he headed for the exit but paused long enough to demand Mr. Morgan’s wallet. He took the man’s billfold, netting a small amount of cash, and fled through the front door.

Responding BSO deputies established a perimeter in the area, closing down Federal Highway for several blocks. K-9 teams and a BSO helicopter scoured the neighborhood for an hour and a half but could not locate the suspect. The search was called off at 11:08 pm.

The suspect is described as a white male, 30 to 45 years old, 5’10” to 6’1” tall, weighing 180 pounds, wearing sunglasses, blue jeans, an orange and aqua Miami Dolphins cap and a black jacket with a large Dolphins logo on the back. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information is asked to call the BSO Robbery Unit at 954-321-4270 or Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS or at
