Description of Incident:

A four-day search for a missing swimmer ended Monday afternoon when a personal watercraft operator spotted the man’s body floating in a Deerfield Beach lake.

At 6:05 p.m. on March 1, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and BSO deputies responded to the southeast corner of Crystal Lake after a man said his friend failed to surface while the two were swimming. Firefighters immediately conducted surface water rescue attempts in the area where the victim was reported and a fire dive team also responded. BSO divers and BSO Air Rescue also searched the lake, unsuccessfully, until the early morning hours of March 2. As the search shifted to a recovery effort, BSO divers returned later Friday morning and spent all day diving and searching with sonar-equipped boats.

At 12:15 p.m. today (Monday), a civilian operating a personal watercraft spotted a body floating near the southeast corner of the lake. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and BSO deputies responded. The BSO Dive Team recovered the body of an adult male.

The identity of the victim was confirmed through fingerprints late Monday afternoon. He has been positively identified as Cleudson DaSilva, 37, of Pompano Beach. The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to confirm the cause of death as drowning.
