Description of Incident:
The gunman sought by BSO Homicide detectives for a gang-related shooting Thursday night was arrested without incident Friday evening.
After picking up 10 of the suspect’s associates late Thursday and early Friday, detectives had obtained an arrest warrant for Jeronimo Pantoja, 20, who shot Mario Rosales, 20, during a brutal confrontation near the victim’s home. Detectives waited for Pantoja to come home, and as he approached his residence on NE 56th Court near Fort Lauderdale, they approached and took the young man into custody.
Pantoja gave a statement but denied being the triggerman in the killing. He is charged with First Degree Murder and is being held without bond in the Broward County Jail.
One of Pantoja’s 10 gang associates was not charged with felony murder, as were the other nine. On Friday, BSO had announced that Dekovan Calderone, 18, was the 10th gang member to be arrested, but after determining that he was not directly involved in Rosales’ murder, detectives determined that he should not be charged.
Pantoja’s apprehension now brings the total number of arrests to 10. The investigation is continuing but no additional arrests are anticipated at this time.
Media Note: a picture of the suspect (Pantoja) is available to be photographed at the Main Jail information desk at 555 SE 1 Ave., Fort Lauderdale.
