Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested the fare turned armed robber who pulled a knife on an unsuspecting cab driver on Dec 21.

Bonanfant Aurelien, 42, picked up what seemed to be a fare at 7:16 a.m. on Dec. 21 in his yellow cab at the Oakland Park Flea Market. The scenario quickly turned dangerous when the passenger pulled out a knife and declared, “I need money. If you don’t give me money, I’m going to start cutting things”. The driver ran out of the car just as the robber attempted to stab him. The robber then began to stab the cab’s seats, surveillance camera and credit card machine. The robber then fled the scene with the victim’s backpack containing personal items and forty dollars in cash.

Detectives arrested Aaron Williams, 29, on January 1 for the armed robbery. Aaron, who has a past criminal history for petit theft and probation violation, was charged with robbery with a weapon, grand theft and criminal mischief. Williams was captured on the cab’s Drive Cam surveillance video during the crime.
