Nearly 100 Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies will gather at BSO’s Weston substation before they head off to Tampa Bay to assist with security at the Republican National Convention that officially gets under next Monday.
Thousands of law enforcement officers from around the state will be converging in Hillsborough County to assist local police and the US Secret Service with the huge event.
Among Florida sheriff’s offices, BSO is sending the largest contingent, consisting of Field Force member deputies, trained in crowd control and managing civil unrest.
The departing deputies are mustering in Pompano Beach and Tamarac prior to gathering in Weston for their final instructions and departure.
Participating agencies and departments, including BSO, are being reimbursed for all expenses, so there will be no cost incurred.
