  • Maurice Goodman, approximately 35, 6410 SW 185th Way, Southwest Ranches

Description of Incident:

The Broward Sheriff’s Office is working to help two men and their pets found living in appalling conditions at a home in Southwest Ranches.

At about 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2002, deputies were called to the home of 87-year old Arnold Goodman and his son Maurice, thought to be 35-years old. A neighbor had called BSO to report that the men were not properly caring for their animals at the home at 6410 SW 185th Way. When deputies arrived, they found four adult dogs, four puppies, five birds, and filthy and cluttered surroundings throughout the home and property.

The animals appeared to be in need of veterinary care and inside the expansive home was debris piled as high as five feet in almost every area of every room. The yard was littered with dilapidated vehicles and rubbish. Although there was food in the dwelling and there was electricity, deputies were concerned that it was not a healthy and habitable environment.

The dogs and birds were taken to animal control and the men were taken to the nearby Cleveland Clinic for observation.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office is coordinating with other agencies to get the men and the animals the help they need. Detectives are continuing their investigation into this case.

At this time, no charges have been filed against either man.
