MIAMI MARLINS LENDS A HAND TO DEPUTY’S DIABETIC SON
- Date: June 20, 2014 PIO Number: 14-6-24
Sheriff Scott Israel will join Ethan Amara, the son of Broward Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Amara, at the Miami Marlins baseball game against the Oakland A’s on Saturday, June 28 at Marlins Park. Ethan suffers from a dangerous form of juvenile diabetes and is in need of a diabetic alert service dog to monitor his condition around the clock.
The Marlins organization has set up a special website where tickets to this game can be purchased. A portion of the proceeds from tickets sold through this website will be donated to assist the family with the purchase of the service dog, which cost over $20,000.
During the pre-game events, which begin at 3:30 p.m. Ethan will be presented a check from the Marlins Foundation. Iraida Ortiz-Davis, of the Broward Sheriff’s Office, will perform the National Anthem and Ethan will start off the game with the traditional “Play Ball!” announcement.
