Grab your lawn chairs, pack up the family and join Sheriff Scott Israel and the men and women of the Broward Sheriff’s Office at Jaco Pastorius Park for a day of celebration and fellowship.
Sheriff Israel spent his first year in office meeting with various community groups, and this year the focus is bringing those communities together through the Uniting Broward: Protecting Communities series. On Saturday, June 28, BSO will host the second Uniting Broward gathering in Oakland Park.
“I recognize that our community is diverse, comprised of people from many races, religions and cultures,” Sheriff Israel said. “By uniting Broward, we are keeping the lines of communication open and working together as one community, so that all voices can be heard and understood.”
BSO’s Uniting Broward events are a key component of the agency’s community policing and outreach programs. The goal is to build stronger communities by interacting on a regular basis to exchange ideas and resolve concerns.
In addition to approximately four dozen multi-cultural exhibits and vendor booths, the festivities will include music, DJs, multicultural dance performances, an array of diverse food trucks, autograph signings by professional athletes, a kids’ play zone with water slide, and a day of fun for everyone. Jonah Woullard of NBC 6, along with 99 Jamz DJ Miss Kimmy will emcee the event.
The community partners and sponsors for Uniting Broward Fest include the City of Oakland Park, Lipton Toyota, The Food Truck Collective, Generation Nexxt and Cox Media Group.
Admission is free. For more information, visit sheriff.org or call BSO’s Community Affairs at (954) 831-8902.
